RUTH ATIM
CEO & Director
Ruth Atim is a cybersecurity trainer and advocate for gender equality in the tech industry. With a background in journalism, she transitioned into cybersecurity training after experiencing online harassment firsthand. Drawing from her own experiences with online violence, Ruth founded Gender Tech Initiative Uganda to support female journalists facing similar challenges. Beyond cybersecurity training, Ruth is passionate about empowering young rural school girls to embrace science subjects and mentors them to pursue careers in STEM fields.Through her work, she’s been able to provide training for women to leverage digital marketing, empowering them to enhance their businesses and economic opportunities. She is making a significant impact in promoting gender equality and digital inclusion in Northern Uganda.
Ruth strives to ensure that girls and young women to learn comprehensive digital security protection to allow them surf the internet as and when they need, and ensure that they aren’t at risk from potential threats.
Ruth is a fellow with Akina Mama wa Africa, a feminist leadership program where she has been able to also train and empower her fellow journalists on how to report on Gender Based Violence professionally. She is a Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) alumnus, a leadership program for Barrack Obama and also a safe sister fellow- a program by the Defend Defenders to raise tech savvy women. Ruth was one of the delegates invited at the World Press Freedom day organized by UNESCO in Ethiopia where she participated in drafting recommendations to end online harassment of female journalists.

CHRISTINE ADERO
Programs Manager
Christine Adero is a Ugandan fashion model with extensive dynamic experience in digital security, data science, and working in the fields of ; youth and gender sensitive programming, policy development.
As a Digital Security trainer, she is bridging the wide gap between digital safety measures for adults and children by creating awareness on Online Violence against children with focus on young girls in digital spaces in Uganda, by mentoring them in Digital Rights and Safety. Her goal is to ensure that the cyber world is equitable, tolerant, just and safe for all young women and girls who use it to fight for their rights in relation to gender, culture, views, gender, and bodily autonomy.
In addition, Christine is also a Defend Defenders Safe Sisters program fellow working on digital safety for women and girls, a Youth Champion at “Every Hour Matters” (A post rape care campaign) under Together For Girls c/o UNAids where she contributed to a post rape care toolkit for Uganda, a Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) fellow, a Defend Defenders DOC-it 2018 fellow working on data analysis and visualization while using data for advocacy, a CREA Alumni under the Feminist Leadership and Movement Building and Rights Institute of East Africa, selected speaker at the World Youth Forum 2018 held in Egypt, and has worked on several youth and gender development programs with United States Peace Corps as a facilitator & partner.

Barbra Apiyo
Administrative Assistant
As the Administrative Assistant at Gender Tech Initiative Uganda, Barbra Apiyo plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s training programs as a trainer too. With a deep commitment to empowering young girls and women, she ensures the smooth operation of programs that provide access to technology and digital literacy skills.

Gloria Ladoo
Volunteer - Developer and Programmer
Gloria Ladoo is a software developer working as a volunteer at Gender Tech Initiative Uganda, where she is serving as an IT, web design and graphics design trainer. With her skills and passion, she’s been mentoring young learners to unlock their potentials especially in Tech field.

Ajok Diana
Volunteer - Trainer and documentation officer
Ajok Diana is a filmmaker, human rights activist, and mentor who uses her skills to empower women and girls.

Jude Barnabas Kibwota
Volunteer
Jude Barnabas Kibwota is a trailblazing tech entrepreneur, AI researcher, and hardware innovator dedicated to revolutionizing Uganda’s technology sector. With expertise in artificial intelligence, embedded systems, and renewable energy, he develops cutting-edge solutions to address challenges in agriculture, education, and engineering. Jude is leading AI-driven projects, such as ATIM, an AI-powered educational assistant for the Acholi language, Optimus, an AI-driven smart farming system, and AI applications for poultry farming and soil/weather monitoring. He is also at the forefront of hardware innovation, spearheading Uganda’s first engineering competition, the Ultimate Engineer Race, and working to establish a makerspace to support young engineers. His areas of expertise include AI & machine learning, edge computing, IoT, computer vision for agriculture, robotics, renewable energy, software development, and STEM education.
