ICT Bootcamp

Inside Our Holiday ICT Bootcamp

The digital world is evolving rapidly, and ensuring that young children gain essential computer skills from an early age is more important than ever. At Gender Tech Initiative Uganda, we believe in empowering the next generation with digital literacy, bridging the gap for children in rural and underserved communities. This is why we organize the Holiday ICT Bootcamp, a transformative three-week program designed to equip school-going children with vital computer skills during their holiday break.

What Happens at the ICT Bootcamp ?

This exciting program is structured to accommodate children of different age groups and skill levels, ensuring that each child learns at a pace that suits them.

The Beginner Class (Ages 4-7) introduces young children to basic computer skills, teaching them how to use a mouse and keyboard, navigate simple applications, and understand digital safety. The Continuing Class (Ages 8-11) builds on this foundation, focusing on Microsoft Word, general computer knowledge, and interactive learning to boost confidence in using technology. For older students, the Upper Class (Ages 12-17) offers advanced training in coding, computer graphics, and website development. This allows them to enhance their creativity and develop essential problem-solving skills for the future.

Presentations

At the end of the three-week training, the bootcamp culminates in a special showcase event where the young participants present their projects to parents, guardians, and community members. This event is a celebration of their hard work and creativity, as they demonstrate what they’ve learned. From simple websites, typed word document, or a basic coding project and the pride on their faces as they present their work is priceless.

Certificates of Completion

To celebrate their dedication and hard work, each child receives a certificate of completion, a token of their effort and a motivation to continue their digital learning journey. This certificate not only serves as a recognition of their achievement but also encourages them to further explore the vast possibilities in the world of technology.

Through the Holiday ICT Bootcamp, we are not just teaching children how to use computers,we are equipping them with skills that will boost their confidence, enhance their learning, and prepare them for future careers in technology.

At Gender Tech Initiative Uganda, we are committed to creating an inclusive digital space where every child, regardless of their background, can learn and thrive. Through initiatives like this, we are making technology accessible, engaging, and fun for the next generation.

As we continue to expand this program, we look forward to collaborating with schools, parents, and community leaders to make digital literacy an integral part of every child’s learning experience.
